Oklahoma City (May 22, 2021) – Disabled veterans are invited to join Team River Runner and RIVERSPORT to try the newest team sport in the Boathouse District, kayak football. The free event is happening Saturday, May 29, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on the lower pond of RIVERSPORT’s whitewater center in the Boathouse District, 800 RIVERSPORT Drive.

Team River Runner is a national organization that provides veterans and their families an opportunity to find health, healing, community purpose, and new challenges through adaptive paddle sports.

“Our veterans love playing kayak football.  It is truly fun for everyone,” said Joe Mornini, Executive Director of Team River Runner. “The camaraderie and competitiveness speak to veterans, and anyone who loves to support our veterans has a blast watching the games. You have to see to believe just how fun it is.”

Registrants can also participate in whitewater rafting, surfing and other urban adventures during the day.  Participation is free for disabled veterans.  The event is open to family, friends, and spectators.

“RIVERSPORT is excited to work with our veterans and Team River Runner to host this great event,” said Mike Knopp, executive director of RIVERSPORT. “We’re hoping to create a Kayak Football league for disabled vets as well as corporate teams from across the city. It’s a great team sport that has lots of possibilities
