Hyrum and Chloe Jensen

My name in N. Hyrum Jensen. My wife Chloe and I have both attended many day trips with TRR Colorado Springs. We have attended trips on many different spots on the Arkansas River. I am going to list as many as I can remember: Upper Fractions, Lower Fractions, House Rock, Pueblo Reservoir to Pueblo Nature Center, and a beginner trip I fail to remember the name of. We attend the weekly pool sessions as often as we can. We also attended the weekend trip centered around CKS’ Paddlefest.

I have a severe hip disability (resultant of a gunshot wound) and my wife has foot and lower leg disabilities (resulting from meningococcal septicemia). Kayaking with this group has benefited us both greatly. I never thought I would be able to spend so much time outdoors enjoying myself so much without severe pain in my hip. It has also enabled Chloe and I to spend lots of time together outdoors, just as we did before my injury. It has proven to be a great way for me to work out my upper body and core without risk of further injury to or pain in my hip and leg.

My name is Chloe Everhart. Hyrum Jensen is my husband. I’m so grateful to Team River Runner for allowing me to join in on Hyrum’s trips. They’ve been great for us. They’ve given me a vigorous sport I can do despite my partial lower leg paralysis. They’ve given Hyrum something he looks forward to and something that gives him joy despite a severe and disabling hip injury. And best of all, they’ve given us something we can do together. We used to take long walks before he was injured, but we haven’t been able to do that in three years now, and may never be able to do that again. Now we can kayak together. As we are getting out of the army and are worried about expenses, we would not have been able to obtain kayak lessons on our own, and probably wouldn’t have since we weren’t sure he could kayak before we joined team river runner. Team River Runner has greatly improved both of our lives and even our relationship. For that we are very grateful to them.
