TRR Friendly Competition Programs

TRR also provide healthy and friendly competition programs promoting more opportunities for veterans to connect with other veterans and communities across the Nation.  We have two main competition programs our TRR National Kayak Football League Tournaments and TRR National Biathlon.  

TRR National Kayak Football League

TRR created Kayak Football Game to promote paddling skills in a fun manners

  • Chapters hold regular kayak football “pickup” games to build paddling skills, and have fun!
  • Kayak Football is simply kayaking, football, and soccer combined!!
  • Regional Tournaments then take place across the nation throughout the year with multiple chapters bringing teams of Chapter participants as teams
  • Each Region’s “Champion Chapter” will compete in the TRR National Football League Tournament to win the “TRR Superbowl” title!

TRR National Biathlon

  • TRR’s longest running competition! Began in 2004!!
  • Takes place on the first Sunday in October at the Washington Canoe Club in Washington DC.
  • All kayaks, PFD’s and paddles are provided
  • Parking in a Georgetown parking lot is provided
  • 1 Mile flat water paddling and 3 mile Run/Jog/Walk/Handcycle
  • Open to all ages, abilities and disabilities! 
  • TRR Fundraising opportunity: racers find sponsors for their race

Vanessa Jones

Committe Co-Chair

Vanessa A. Jones is a dynamic force dedicated to fostering
inclusivity, encouraging discussion, and promoting a culture of
belonging in the outdoor sports community. Hailing from
Washington, DC, she brings a wealth of diverse experiences and
perspectives to her endeavors.
As a US Army veteran and ordained Chaplain with a focus on
seniors and caretakers, Vanessa is deeply committed to serving
others. Her work as a patient-caretaker advocate reflects her
passion for supporting vulnerable populations and ensuring their
voices are heard.
Currently, Vanessa is employed by a resettlement agency, where
she confronts challenges head-on with resilience and
compassion. As a single, Black woman veteran, she embraces
the unique hurdles she faces, viewing them as opportunities for
growth and empowerment.
In her downtime, she wears many hats, including that of a
missionary, spreading hope and positivity wherever she goes.
Weekends are spent paddling, immersing herself in West African
dance and finding solace and joy in nature’s embrace.
Vanessa is committed to equitable principles, ensuring that
everyone’s opinions are valued and heard. Through her
unwavering dedication and inclusive leadership, Vanessa is
paving the way for a more equitable and diverse outdoor sports
landscape.
